Chemring Awarded Ground Penetrating Radar Enhancement Systems Contract from US Army

February 13, 2017

Dulles, VA – Chemring Sensors & Electronic Systems ("CSES"), part of the Chemring Group PLC ("Group"), announces that it has been awarded a $4.9 million contract from the US Army for ten Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) trial systems that incorporate  the Group's enhanced technology capabilities. Adding this new detection technology is a continuation of ongoing efforts to enhance the military worth of the successful GPR-based Husky Mounted Detection System ("HMDS") program that was first employed by US forces in Afghanistan in 2008.

The integration of this GPR enhancing technology is collaboration with the US Army Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate and the Product Manager Counter-Explosive Hazards. Work under the contract will commence immediately and will be conducted at CSES' Dulles, VA and Charlotte, NC facilities.

Steven F. Cummings, Acting President of Chemring Sensors and Electronic Systems, said, " I am very pleased to continue our partnership with the US Army in finding IEDs and saving soldier and civilian lives. These enhanced systems were developed in conjunction with our UK sister companies, Roke Manor and Chemring Technology Solutions, and underscore Chemring's ongoing commitment to providing solutions for the US government's emerging needs. This contract reflects the Army's continued confidence in Chemring's detection expertise and we are proud to continue and build upon our partnership."
