NIITEK Inc., a division of Chemring Sensors & Electronic Systems, is the global pioneer in the design, development and production of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems for detection of buried explosive hazards. NIITEK’s Husky-Mounted Detection System (HMDS) has been deployed in multiple harsh combat environments, providing an essential lifesaving solution for both US troops and allied forces in route clearance operations. NIITEK’s three-dimensional, ultra-wideband GPR system has produced and deployed more than 400 route clearance systems, and our technology has been selected as a Program of Record (PoR) for the US Army and Marine Corps. The Army has described HMDS as a “leap forward in technology in road clearance missions”. NIITEK’s GPR technology has been ruggedized and designed to be scalable allowing for countries and organizations to adapt the technology to meet their mission requirements. Military and civilian vehicles follow our systems on roads that otherwise would be impassible, saving soldier and civilian lives every day.
With corporate headquarters and research and development in Dulles, Virginia, and state-of-the-art production facilities in Charlottesville, VA and Charlotte, NC, NIITEK’s diverse and talented team is united by its dedication to fielding buried explosive detection systems.
Before the First Step…Saving Lives, Soldier and Civilian
Enemy mines and other explosive hazards continue to be the most dangerous and lethal threat on the battlefield and will continue to be a threat in the future. Many soldiers and civilians have lost their lives or have been severely injured by buried explosive hazards around the world. With combat proven GPR systems, like the Husky Mounted Detection System (HMDS), many of these threats are found and neutralized before they can cause harm.

NIITEK was founded in 2000 and purchased by Chemring Group in 2008. The acquisition of NIITEK extended Chemring's detection capability in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) market. With countermine and route clearance operations becoming increasingly important to enable modern peace-keeping, NIITEK's core R&D business had been funded by the US Army to develop its mine detection technology. Following its successful operational deployment, and pre-production investment from the US Army, NIITEK's first product was ready for production.
In May of 2014, NIITEK acquired 3D-Radar, a leading developer of commercial 3D GPR technology. 3D-Radar’s GPR technology complements NIITEK’s world leading military route clearance capabilities and allows the company to further develop detection technology and pursue significant opportunities in the commercial sector.
